IMPACT OF MGNREGA ON RURAL DEVELOPMENT: A REVIEW

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) on the basis of earlier studies. The study specifically focuses on analysing performance of MNREGA in enhancing rural development of Haryana and role of MNREGA in creating financial, physical, and social infrastructure for rural regions. The study reveals that Indian government launched a number of programs for development of villages like Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP), Food and Work Programme, Rural Housing, State Rural Connectivity, Wage Employment Programme, Employment Assurance Scheme and MNREGA etc. MNREGA is boon for rural regions as in rural Haryana socio-economic conditions are not so good. MNREGA plays important role in removing basic problems exists in rural areas. This study helps to understand role of MNREGA in improving socio-economic conditions in special reference to Haryana. But a lot of efforts are still needed to achieve the target as there exists many roadblocks in implementation of the scheme.
