Abstract

Social security being a broad phrase, this article aims to clarify the definition as applied to unorganised workers under statute, as well as the statutory requirements & court rulings concerning it. Unquestionably, resolving the concerns and problems of the unorganised workers due to the future threats to the labour market is the most pressing challenges at present. The paper dwells primarily on the passage of the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008 , and discusses the Act for failing to adequately address the objective for which it was enacted. The article concludes by emphasizing the necessity of social security as well as pointing out how labour laws should be implemented for the betterment of workers in considering the evolving character of the future of job opportunities as a result of the driving forces arising from advances in technology and the ever-evolving dynamics of globalisation.
