Abstract

The chapter presents the results of the empirical study based on questionnaire on ‘Status of Disabled in Higher Education in Uttar Pradesh. For this purpose researcher has picked four universities of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, namely, Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Lucknow, Shakuntala Mishra University, Lucknow, Lucknow University, Lucknow, Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow, which are funded by different sources like Centre, State along with a special University which is meant for physically challenged persons. For the purpose of empirical study the researcher has prepared questionnaire, consisting of 21 questions covers all the aspect of disabilities. Higher education for disabled is running on paper. Students suffering from disabilities faces several barriers in knowledge technology and infrastructure, reproducing and deploying segregation within institutional spaces. These barriers are responsible for exclusion of disabled students. The researcher presents in this chapter the findings that built on 268 samples based on questionnaire, to find out the challenges students with disabilities faces in Universities of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Out of four Universities, one of the University is Central University and remaining three universities are State University. The result of the present study are represented with the help of table, pie chart, column chart and discussion related to the secondary literature and explained. The researcher highlights the dismal and pathetic condition of disabled in higher education. They are not getting proper trained teacher, books and journals in Braille Script, Sign language teacher and due representation in private sector.
